Why NFC for wallets?

Every citizen with an identity document with chip has a digital identity in that document. The chip inside the passport, residence permit or identity card contains and guards that digital identity, government issued, secure, privacy friendly. That chip can be read and verified with certainty. Any manipulation can be detected by our software. And when combined with face biometrics you can bind that identity to the owner of the mobile phone.

Only with NFC you can be sure that the document is real. Deepfakes don't have chipped identities. Optical verification of documents can easily be spoofed.

With NFC you can onboard citizens as eIDAS level high, you can create qualified attestations and you can recover wallets secure. Only with NFC you can. Unless you want everybody to queue in the city hall on a regular basis.
