ReadID was named a 2020 NFC Forum Innovation Award Finalist today in the category Best NFC Application in iOS.
The NFC Forum Innovation Awards recognises the development, deployment and use of state-of-the-art of NFC products, services and applications worldwide. Ninety entries were received from innovators around the world demonstrating the tremendous growth and interest in Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and its use. The NFC Forum is the global standards-body for NFC technology.
ReadID is one of 15 finalists selected in five categories. The entries were reviewed and voted on by a distinguished panel of judges. ReadID was used in the world’s most successful remote identity verification immigration programme, the UK Home Office EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS). This was the first iOS app in production to read ICAO MRTD compliant chips via NFC at large scale and was received very well by its users. Since then, ReadID is also brought in production on iOS by, amongst others, large EU banks.
Apple opened up the NFC functionality to external parties only in iOS13 in 2019, whereas the technical capabilities where available since iPhone 7. ReadID was one of the first applications to use NFC on iPhone in such an innovative way.
