How ReadID and holder verification work

Secure remote device binding

Thanks to the cryptographically secured chain of trust from the issuing government down to the operating system of identity document chips, NFC-based identity verification is the only way to ensure remotely that a document is 100% authentic and untampered.

This means that the face image within the chip is the best basis for biometric facial checks as it cannot be replaced or manipulated without detection.

The combination of NFC-based ReadID and biometric holder verification is the strongest method to securely link users to their device, no matter where or when.

NFC-chip reading is the only method of physical identity document verification that can be done remotely with complete assurance thanks to the chain of trust enabled by advanced cryptography.

How does it work?

ReadID uses cryptography to securely read the contents of identity document chips and authenticate them with our database of country signing certificates provided by issuing states.

The chip contents include the high-quality original face image which can be used via Inverid's facial biometric partner orchestration for holder verification.

This combination of IDV technologies is the only way identity documents can be authenticated remotely in a secure manner.

Deepfake proof

NFC chip reading utilises the chain of trust from the encrypted machines that creates documents all the way to the cryptography in the operating system of the chip.

Thanks to advanced cryptography, document chips cannot be manipulated or duplicated without detection. As a result, they are immune to the image manipulation that can occur with optical verification technologies.
